Katie Swan (23) from Great Britain won also the last match of the 1st W60 EMPIRE Women's Indoor 2022 tournament in the TC EMPIRE Trnava. In the singles final, she beat No. 1 seed Xinyu Wang from China 6-1 3-6 6-4.
The singles final between Swan and Wang started at 11am on Sunday 9 October. The match lasted 2 hours and 7 minutes. The Brit finally enjoyed a three-set victory. She earned 9142 US dollars before tax and gained 80 points in the WTA singles ranking. "To be honest, I'm just relieved. It was such a tough match. She is such a great player. I knew it is gonna be tough. I was struggling quite a lot physically from the middle of that match. I wanted to push myself and see how much I could push. And I’m so happy that I’ve managed to win," said Swan, who was treated by a physiotherapist after the second set. It looked like pain in the left thigh. Thanks to the triumph, Swan reached her maximum - 118th place in the WTA ranking in singles.
The doubles title of the first 1st W60 EMPIRE Women's Indoor 2022 tournament, which is part of the EMPIRE Indoor Tennis Tour 2022 series, was won by the pair Maia Lumsden - Mariam Bolkvadze. The British-Georgian pair won the doubles final over the Latvian-Swiss pair Diana Marcinkevic - Conny Perrin 6-2 6-3.
